Alicia Silverstone Would Like Your Breast Milk, Please

The Clueless star launched a breast-milk sharing program.

New York Mag has the scoop on a new breast-milk sharing programmed, helmed by Hollywood star (and vegan and mom) Alicia Silverstone. The program, called Kind Mama Milk Share, was inspired by a fellow vegan friend who, after having trouble producing breast milk, reached out to the milk-donor community for help, but found that there was very little information about the lifestyle choices of the donors (i.e. did they drink a lot? Smoke a lot? Eat meat? Etc.).

Not that Silverstone’s program—which appears to be little more than a blog post and a comments section as of now—has any official way to do verify those things, either. She writes:

And because we are a community of beautiful souls who recognize the importance of food as health, I say we help support those mamas and babies who need a hand during one of the most important times in their lives. It’s why I’m starting the Kind Mama Milk Share, a way for moms to connect with other moms in their area. If you have milk to share–post it! If you are in need of milk–post it! Think of all the babies we can help raise together!

So yes, it’s an honor-system thing. But so far, the post has 48 comments—many of which are offers of milk donations—and counting. Read them here.
