Actress Alicia Silverstone Spits Food into Her Kid’s Mouth

Warning: what you are about to see is absolutely disgusting.

If a picture’s worth a thousand words, this video must be off the charts. I’ll warn you before you click play: In it, everybody’s favorite Clueless actress, Alicia Silverstone, chews her food, then spits it into her 11-month-old’s mouth. And by the way her son opens his mouth in anticipation, it’s clear this isn’t a one-time thing. Ok, here goes …

I’ll give you a minute to recover.

Better? Okay, then. Los Angeles Times reporter Rene Lynch writes that—ew—this bird-like feeding isn’t all that uncommon.

Many parents will admit to biting something — say, a hot dog — into smaller pieces when a fork and knife aren’t handy to make sure their child won’t choke. And way back when — long before supermarkets and Gerber and Playtex — people used premasticated food to transition children from mother’s milk to solids.

Some experts say that pre-chewed food is good for baby because it helps build immunity. Others say Silverstone’s feeding method actually puts her kid more at risk for catching cold and flu bugs and could cause tooth decay.

On her website, the Kind Life, where Silverstone first posted the video on Tuesday, she wrote:

I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum! I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup…from my mouth to his. It’s his favorite…and mine. He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I’m eating. This video was taken about a month or 2 ago when he was a bit wobbly. Now he is grabbing my mouth to get the food!

Weigh in: Would you feed your kid by pre-chewing his food?
