Todd Carmichael Completes Tom Hanks’ White House Press Corps Gift

Hanks sent the coffee maker and the La Colombe CEO sent the coffee. They're keeping the press awake.

As if we needed another reason to confirm Todd Carmichael’s distinguished greatness, the La Colombe CEO, who’s typically globe-trotting and thinking up plans to revolutionize how we caffeinate, just got political.

Last week, after Tom Hanks sent a new coffee machine to the White House pressroom, Carmichael followed suit by sending a shipment of coffee to the press corps.

Now a bundle of coffee from someone who runs a thriving coffee empire may not seem like a big deal, but in light of the White House’s war on the press, the donation means a lot.

When Hanks sent over his coffee maker, he attached a letter to the press corps that read, “Keep up the good fight for Truth, Justice, and the American Way. Especially for the Truth part.” And Carmichael sent a written message of his own: “I second Mr. Hank’s note. This coffee should do the trick. Keep fighting for the truth.”

Carmichael, a Montgomery County resident told the Inquirer, “I realized it’s small gesture but it’s what I do.” Carmichael also told the publication that as a father of four Ethiopian children and with his business partnership with French and Turkish immigrants, he’s especially concerned with Trump’s immigration policies.

“I’m first a citizen, and then I’m a coffee man, but ‘citizen trumps everything for me,” Carmichael said to the Inquirer. “First I do my duties as a citizen, and if I see something that doesn’t reconcile with just basic decency, I need to stand up.”
