Here’s the First Trailer for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

The film is based on a novel that was published by Philadelphia's Quirk books.

It’s been a long time coming, but the film version of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the ghoulish adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic Pride and Prejudice, finally has a release date and its first trailer (below).

The book it’s based on was published in 2009 by Philadelphia publishing company Quirk. The million-seller stayed on The New York Times bestseller list for more than 50 weeks, and has been translated into 25 languages. Quirk explains the plot on their website:

As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton-and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she’s soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers-and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead.

The film stars Lily James as Elizabeth and Sam Riley as Mr. Darcy. From the looks of the trailer, you can expect it to start like any other Jane-Austen-novel-turned-movie, but then the heroine turns around to find there’s a zombie trying to eat her brains and getting in the way of her ascent up the social ladder. Enjoy the trailer below, but don’t get too excited just yet. It doesn’t open in theaters till February 5, 2016.
