If the Eagles were to keep up this pace, they would turn the ball over a staggering 72 times this season. Of course, everyone expects that number to level off as Michael Vick and the offense work the kinks out. But even if they finish with half that, it would still be among the highest totals during Andy Reid‘s tenure as head coach. And when the numbers are that high, the results aren’t pretty. Take a look:

In the team’s greatest stretch of success, from 2000 to 2004, the offense turned it over an average of 24 times per season. On the flip side, Reid’s club averaged 34 turnovers in seasons where they finished 8-8 or worse.
If this team averages two a game the rest of the way they will match last year’s mark of 37 turnovers, which is the highest since 1999 when Doug Pederson was getting a bunch of the reps.
Yes, they are 2-0 and could conceivably overcome this high number. But it would be the first time in 14 years that they have done so. They have never had a winning record when coughing it up more than 29 times.
