UPDATE 4/2: Brooklyn Boulders thinks Philly is a joke. They announced today, more than 24 hours after their “prank” post went live (and in a bald-faced breach of April Fools’ Day etiquette), that their “announcement” of a Queen Village location was a “cruel April Fools’ joke, Philly.” They’re, of course, pleading for Philadelphians to sign a petition to bring a Brooklyn Boulders location to Philly, which is the last you’ll hear about this company on PhillyMag.com. Ever.

……..

ORIGINAL: Yup, it seems those rumors were true. Brooklyn Boulders, a New York-based rock climbing gym with locations in Brooklyn, Chicago and Massachusetts, is officially adding Philly to its list of outposts. Unless this is an April Fools’ joke (that would be SO mean), the gym announced on its blog and social media platforms this morning that it has secured a spot in Queen Village.

No word yet on an exact address; I’ve tried calling and emailing but haven’t heard back yet.

Nevertheless, Queen Village seems to be it, and the post also says construction is already underway, and they’re shooting for a target opening time-frame for sometime this summer.

And even if you’re sort of “meh” about rock climbing, you can get excited by the fact that Brooklyn Boulders locations also include some fun fitness elements, including yoga, acroyoga and Capoeira classes, an Afro-Brazilian martial art that incorporates dance and acrobatics. Intriguing, right? They also offer one-time fitness and wellness workshops.

We’ll update when we have an exact address or any new information.
