To Do: Boxers’ Trail 5K Run in East Fairmount Park

Here's your chance to train like Joe Frazier

Local heavy weight boxing champ Joe Frazier didn’t sprint the Art Museum steps for his training workouts a la Rocky Balboa. He ran on the scenic, wooded paths of East Fairmount Park—which is exactly where the Boxers’ Trail 5K Run/Walk will take place next month.

Now in its second year, the race kicks off at the Mander Recreation Center. There will be a timed (read: competitive) 5K run, followed by an un-timed (read: noncompetitive) walk. The race benefits the rec center, which organizes local youth programs. It also coincides with the Strawberry Mansion Day community festival, which will begin as soon as the race is over. Runners will receive Boxers’ Trail 5K t-shirts, as well as snacks, fruit and water. Register here.

$20 for the run, $15 for the walk, September 14th at 9:30 a.m., Mander Recreation Center, 2140 North 33rd Street, Philadelphia.
