South Street Whole Foods Now Offering Cold-Pressed Juice

We've got the skinny on the six yummy flavors.

The folks over at the South Street Whole Foods Market are mighty busy these days. Not only did they just launch a new grocery delivery service last month, they also started churning out their own cold-pressed juices.

Wait, what the heck does “cold-pressed” mean? “Some juicers that grind the fruit create heat,” destroying some of the enzymes and oxidizing the nutrients, explains the store’s marketing director Carolyn Reinhardt. The result is a less nutritious juice. “What’s cool about ours is that it’s an entirely cold process,” she says, “so it keeps the juice raw and the nutrients intact.” The store’s juicer is actually an industrial capacity cold-hydraulic-press juicer, called a Pressed Right. It uses 16.25 tons of pressure to extract the juice. The store uses food from its own produce section to make the mixtures.

As of now, there are six flavors available:

• Beeternal >> carrots, beets, Granny Smith apples, green kale

• Belly Rub >> green cabbage, Bartlett pears, pineapples, curly parsley, fresh mint, fresh ginger

• Emerald River >> green kale, celery, broccoli, cucumber, Granny Smith apples, fresh ginger, lemon

• Greens with Envy >> green kale, curly parsley, baby spinach, broccoli, cucumber, Bartlett pears, pineapples, lemon

• Lemon Zip >> lemon, green seedless grapes, jalapeño, ginger, water

• Super A >> Granny Smith apples, carrots, fresh ginger

The 16-ounce juices cost $6.99 each and are available in the produce department and drink case. The juices are only available at the South Street Whole Foods location.
