This Merion Cricket Club Wedding is Preppy Perfection

We love the getaway car and the bright pink bridesmaid dresses.

Preppy meets playful is the perfect way to go for a summer wedding at The Merion Cricket Club. We love the classic styling and vintage getaway car at Christen Scanlon and Thomas Owston III’s nuptials, captured beautifully in the photos below by Caroline Morris.

Christen and Thomas met in San Fransisco, but it was their ties to Philly that brought them together (they connected through a mutual friend on the dating app Hinge, and quickly recognized they were both from the city). Their first date at Hidden Vine, a wine bar in SF’s Financial District, went swimmingly — Christen was very impressed that Tom showed up in a suit, especially because everyone else in SF wore hoodies on their first dates. They bonded over favorite spots on the Jersey shore, and, most importantly, a shared love for the sport of rowing. (Christen and Tom both rowed in high school and college — her at Georgetown and him at Northeastern — but had somehow never met.) A year-and-a-half later, Tom proposed with a family heirloom emerald-cut ring from the 1950s. It was Christen’s exact size and didn’t need to be adjusted.

Their July wedding at The Merion Cricket club was filled with nods to the couples’ families and their love of rowing. Tom wore his father’s wedding band that was engraved with the same wedding date from 1978, and later donned a straw skimmer hat that was a staple at old-fashioned rowing events. Later in the evening, the Eagles Pep Band showed up for a raucous performance, and each guest took home a box of fudge from The Original Fudge Kitchen, the couple’s favorite candy shop in Cape May. Christen and Tom swayed to a melody of “I Get a Kick Out of You” and “Dancing in the Streets” for their first dance, and finally drove off in Tom’s father’s refurbished 1966 GT Ford Mustang convertible.

The happy couple honeymooned in Bermuda, and currently live in Wynnewood, where Tom is a director at Rubicon Global and Christen works as a marketing director for Visa.
