Bride-to-be Blogger Leslie: The First Dance

One hurdle that Charles and I have been facing together lately has been picking out the song for our first dance as husband and wife. We have somewhat different musical tastes — and have a little bit of a different vision for the moment — and picking a song that we both agree on has taken a lot longer than expected!

We both want a song that is off the beaten path — not too old, not too new, not too overplayed, something that is just right! It is hard to find a song that touches upon the classic and modern twist that we both are looking for. We want a slow song, but not too slow — just something a little different.

The first thing we did to complete our search was to Google the top wedding first-dance songs — and then we immediately crossed them off our list! It actually helped with our search to get rid of the most popular songs, since we didn’t want to go that route. We then examined our band’s set list to see if there was anything we wanted that they already knew how to play. Then, after we had started a list, we got our YouTube on and began listening to anything and everything that could work as a potential first-dance song.

Charles and I have plans to sign up for dance lessons with the hopes of having a choreographed first dance — but we can’t finalize that until we pick our song! We have been able to narrow it down to a few main picks, but we are still having trouble committing to a song we both love — one we want to share as our first dance as husband and wife.
