Brown Betty’s New Digs

You might want to alert your maid of honor, brides: Come Sunday, February 13th, Brown Betty Dessert Boutique will be re-opening just down the street from their original main Northern Liberties location, to 722 N 2nd Street.

This new 2,500-square-foot, bi-level store will be triple the size of the old one, which not only means a lot more room for eat-in customers — it also means that there will now be a fab little private event space ideal for intimate, 15-to-20-person bridal showers.

The private room includes a communal table that seats up to 10, and a comfortable lounge and couch area.  Owner Norrinda Brown is also working on an idea for a baking bridal shower, where brides and their girls could come bake some signature Brown Betty treats themselves. Maybe Betty herself — Norrinda’s grandmother, and the woman who the recipes are inspired by — would even make a special appearance!

While all the details aren’t yet finalized, bridal showers will most likely include a customized selection of Brown Betty desserts, including, cookies, pound cakes, rice pudding, and nudies (cupcakes that are naturally sweetened with fruit and juice, a healthier Brown Betty specialty), and a BYO champagne policy. The bride-to-be could even meet with the cake designer while they were there, to check out Brown Betty’s signature cake batters, fillings and frostings. There are even Brown Betty t-shirts, for cute party favors.

The other two Brown Betty Dessert Petite cupcake shops — in Rittenhouse and Liberty Place — aren’t going anywhere.

Bridal party prices are not yet finalized, and will be available upon request. 722 N 2nd St, 215-629-099, brownbettydesserts.com. — Kelsey Stone
