“Suspicious” is the word investigators are using to describe the death of a man in West Philly.

Police responded to 9-1-1 calls about screams echoing on Thompson Street near 49th about 1:30 this morning, and found the man splayed out on the ground, in between two parked cars, Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC-10. The man’s slippers were on the sidewalk, about five feet away from his body. He was pronounced dead a short while later.

Investigators discovered a wrench about 50 feet away. Small told NBC-10 that the man, whose name has not yet been released, had abrasions on his forehead and elbows, but it’s unclear how he sustained those injuries. “At this time, it is a suspicious death,” Small said.

Homicide detectives are now working the case.
