Possible Mumps Outbreak in, Where Else, New Jersey

If you’ve eaten at D’Jais Bar and Grill in the last two weeks, you may want to start checking your glands for swelling: it looks like the Belmar eatery is ground-zero for a mumps outbreak that has infected at least 22 people.

The bar, now closed for the weekend, started to see callouts over last weekend, with employees returning from doctor visits with news that they may be dealing with the dreaded mumps. Since the diagnoses started rolling in, D’Jais co-owner Frank Sementa said they decided to close.

“The most prudent thing to do was to close this weekend and let the dust settle and see where we are Monday,” he told Fox affiliate My9NJ.

Strange for sure, but at least Philly isn’t alone anymore in dealing with problems more commonly associated with developing nations. [My9NJ]
