Watch Donovan McNabb Tear Up at Eagles “Retirement” Speech
Today the Eagles allowed ol’ number 5 to retire with the team (they’ll also retire his number) and today he took the podium for an emotional ten-minute address. The speech was moving and heartfelt–especially during his tribute to “Big Red”–but it was also oddly defiant. These affairs are supposed to be celebratory (see Hideki Matsui’s “retirement” at Yankee stadium yesterday), but it seems that even at this moment, McNabb couldn’t shake his bitterness about the way his Eagles tenure soured and ended. “I gave everything I had. When I stepped out on the field, I never complained,” he said. “When you seen Five, you knew Five was gonna give you what he got.”
