It’s Gabby Giffords vs. Wayne LaPierre Today in the U.S. Senate

In one large, carpeted, wood-panelled room today, two of the most visible figureheads in the debate on gun control will sit just feet away from one another, during a Senate hearing. Former U.S. Rep Gabrielle Giffords, who made a surprise appearance at the hearing, one one side; NRA chief, and professional paranoiac Wayne LaPierre on the other (see over two decades of hysterical statements here). In her opening statement, Giffords, who still struggles to speak, already said: We must do something. It will be hard but the time is now.” It’s unclear if she’ll be able to further testify, though her husband will. LaPierre, meanwhile, should have no problem saying lots and lots of things. Watch the live feed here.
