Do Not Taunt Chris Christie About Hurricane Sandy. Ever.

Listen, we all know that Chris Christie’s temper is kind of a shtick, a performance he puts on every week or so to make sure that Garden State residents are still paying attention to him. Still, there are times when he appears genuine. When he talks about Bruce Springsteen, for example. Or anything related to Hurricane Sandy. Unfortunately, State Sen. Stephen Sweeney decided to cross Christie on this front, suggesting Monday that Christie was benefitting politically from the storm—since recovery will require spending and jobs to complete the cleanup. “We gave the governor a jobs package. We gave him one. He vetoed it,” Sweeney said. “And his job package is a hurricane. I guess he prayed a lot and got lucky a storm came. I shouldn’t say that… I apologize for saying it.” Too late. Christie’s spokesman lambasted Sweeney: “No one ‘prayed’ for what New Jersey has endured. This is politics at its worst and Senator Sweeney’s next press release should be to all residents of New Jersey saying he is ashamed of what he said today.” Sweeney has apologized again. Any guesses on whether the governor forgives and forgets? [Politico]
