Sandy Erased Half of the Shore’s Beaches

According to a new study from the Coastal Research Center at Richard Stockton College, last month’s hurricane washed as much as half the sand away from New Jersey’s beaches. On average, Shore towns saw their beaches narrowed by 30 to 40 feet; Mantoloking, the worst-hit town, lost 150 feet of beach. Such stark numbers are expected to intensify the debate on federal beach replenishment, a perennial Congressional target. [HuffPo]
