Video Game Meets Drag Stardom

Dragopolis will be available as a free download next month

We’ve heard of Mario leaping to new heights for points, Pac-Man gobbling up power pellets and even Angry Birds taking out pigs. But for the first time, drag is the theme of a new kind of video game. The company behind the popular Fireflies! is getting ready to release Dragopolis, a one-of-a-kind app that relies on a new kind of heroine.

The premise of this adventure? Users must get their drag star to the nightclub in time to claim her title as Queen of Dragopolis by jumping, clawing and battling fierce minions and the most evil drag queen of all – Apocalypstyk. All while, the queen must serve up new looks for the paparazzi.

“I’ve been a huge fan of drag performers for years,” says Jeff Meador of So Much Drama Studios.”The whole genre has such a bold style that really resonates with me. There’s a humor, bawdiness, and theatricality to drag that I just love. Putting drag queens in a game like Dragopolis is a natural fit. You haven’t seen a game like this before – from and for the LGBT community.”

Dragopolis will be available as a free download on iTunes for iOS devices on November 14. An Android version of the game will be released later this year. And while the game is free, for 99 cents, gamers can recruit celebrity drag queens Pandora Boxx, Yara Sofia or Peaches Christ for a whole new adventure.
