Philly Teen That Drowned Trying to Rescue Friend Is Honored With Carnegie Medal

On Thursday, 19 people were honored with Carnegie medals for heroism. Among the 19 honorees was Philly’s 19-year-old William Wilkinson, who drowned in the Delaware River in 2011 while trying to rescue a friend that had fallen into the water. After the two were separated by currents, two other men jumped in the water to help them to safety. Wilkinson couldn’t stay afloat. His body was recovered from the river the next day. One of the other men that jumped into the water was also honored with the award. [Wall Street Journal]
