Man Dies in SEPTA Police Custody

Transit police apprehend man who then died in their custody

On Friday, SEPTA police received a report of a man stealing copper wire in the city’s Logan neighborhood. After spotting and chasing a suspect, a scuffle ensued that ended when a SEPTA officer pepper-sprayed the man. Later that day, while still in SEPTA custody, the suspect died at a hospital where the SEPTA officers had taken him when he complained of having trouble breathing. [6 ABC]
