Monitoring Hurricane Irene in Philadelphia

Follow the Office of Emergency Management to get the latest news

The Scoop wants you to stay safe during Irene’s rain of terror (see what we did there?) and there’s no better way to do that than keeping in touch with Philly’s Office of Emergency Management. The best way to get the latest news—especially if you lose power—is by following them on Twitter and Facebook. And, if you have been wondering if the hurricane is media hype, watch Michael Nutter’s stern video below. It’ll scare the pants off you (or bore you to death).

UPDATE: The Mayor has declared the first state of emergency in the city since 1986 and he is now warning that Philadelphia could lose electricity for more than a week. Watch the video below for more information.
