School District Demands Renegotiations With Teachers’ Union

This is going to get ugly, folks

The School Reform Commission has given  the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers until June 30 to open the discussion for negotiations on the current teachers’ contract, which doesn’t end for another year. As expected, the PFT is not psyched about this. For a moment, forget your stance on unions—and this controversial union in particular—if the teachers are asked (read: expected) to sign new contracts to help with the funding crisis, shouldn’t this also mean that Queen Arlene, who makes more than the mayor and the governor combined, should be asked to renegotiate, too?
