Make the Yuletide Gay

A holiday guide to all things LGBT in Philly

Friday, December 24

Roasting your chestnuts on an open fire sounds even better with the 17th annual edition of The Night Before on XPN. Openly gay D.J. Robert Drake hosts 24 hours of nonstop holiday sounds of the season direct from his own very diverse collection, ranging from singer/songwriter to jazz, Creole and funk. It all gets started midnight to midnight on the dial or online. Those who tune in online will enjoy Drake’s own “Jingle Cam” which streams footage from the studio (complete with many pots of hot coffee, no doubt).

Baby, it may be cold outside, but it’ll be hot – sizzling, even – at 12th Air Command during Skin (10 p.m.-2 a.m.). The Christmas Eve party is packed with male dancers and even includes an amateur strip contest hosted by Salotta Tea.

Or you could head to Woody’s to make the Yuletide really gay – there’s no cover on the dance floor.

William Way Community Center is hosting its Seventh Annual Holiday Potluck (2 p.m.). The cost of admission is simply bringing a dish to share with friends. Recommended items include turkey, dessert or vegan and vegetarian dishes. Please R.S.V.P. in advance (215-732-2220).

Sara Sherr (D.J. and karaoke hostess with the mostess) brings Sugar Town’s Jewish Christmas to Tritone (10 p.m.-2 a.m.) with music sets from Sherr, Allison “Jewcy” Paul and Lauren Crouch. You can also catch Sherr’s Sing Your Life Bowie-oke at Bob & Barbara’s (1509 South St.) on Sunday starting at 9 p.m.

Sisters hosts its annual What the Elf? party (9 p.m.-2 a.m.) with dancing and drink specials that can only add to your holiday cheer (and calorie count).

The 12th Air Command does it again with its Christmas Night party, Naughty, Not Nice (10 p.m.-2 a.m.) featuring adult giveaways, door prizes and all the male dancers you can shake your, um, peppermint stick at.

Woody’s is also open for business as usual with drinks and dancing and D.J. Dozia on deck.
