Bumper to Bumper

1. Improve your timing . The worst time to be on the roads is between 2 and 7 p.m. Better to turn one vacation day into two half days and leave at noon, Kelly suggests, than to be on the road during these do-not-drive hours.

2. Listen to the traffic report. The big news? Starting in July, construction will begin on Route 73 to eliminate the Berlin Circle, at Route 30.

3. Go the no-hassle route. At kyw.com, Kelly posts his “back roads to the beach” for more than 15 Shore towns — alternate routes that avoid gridlock and also note scenic spots and bathroom breaks for the kids.
