Here’s How the Free Library Is Celebrating Pride Month In A Big Way

The organization is hosting over 30 LGBTQ events across the city that you can attend all month long.


Free Library of Philadelphia is celebrating Pride Month all through June.

In celebration of Pride month, the Free Library of Philadelphia have gone all out this June to host a wide variety of LGBTQ-themed events throughout the city. With over 30 events lined up, there’s something for everyone — youth, families, poets, drag queens, and more.

Pizza Party with Attic Youth Center
Wednesday, June 6 │4:00 p.m., Lillian Marrero Library, 601 W. Lehigh Avenue

This training is for children and teens provides basic knowledge and insight on LGBTQ+ terminology and concepts and generates empathy among students through self-exploration and firsthand recollection from LGBTQ+ young people.

Poetry Reading: Raquel Salas Rivera
Wednesday, June 13 │ 6:30 p.m., Philadelphia City Institute, 1905 Locust Street

Raquel Salas Rivera, the 2018–2019 Poet Laureate of Philadelphia, will be doing a poetry reading that addresses loss, queerness, and colonialism.

Drag Queen Storytime

Children and families are invited to hear children’s books about diversity and self-love, read by a real queen—a drag queen.

Pride Month Family Night
Tuesday, June 26 │6:30–7:30 p.m., Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library,

For children age 11 and under, and their caregivers, to partake in stories, songs, rhymes, music, movement, and creative play, along with a fun art project, at this LGBTQ-themed family story time and play time.

All-Ages Drag Show!
Wednesday June 27 │ 6:00–8:00 p.m., Skyline Room, Parkway Central Library, 1901 Vine Street

Teen Central hosts an evening of drag performances in celebration of Pride Month.

You Can’t Kill a Poet
Wednesday, June 27 │ 6:30 p.m., South Philadelphia Library, 1700 S. Broad Street

Join the library for an evening of LGBTQ+ writers and poets sharing their work.

Reading Out Loud
Friday, June 29 │ 1:00 p.m., Independence Library, 18 S. 7th Street

Come out in front of the Barbara Gittings Gay/Lesbian Collection for a reading of selections from the works of LGBTQ writers.
