A new breakfast and lunch spot has opened in a space with a long history at 11th and Wharton. Owners Sara and Bruce Reckahn opened Comfort & Floyd, which will serve a chef-y take on homestyle comfort food, at 1301 South 11th Street earlier this week.

The concept continues a long lineage of breakfast, lunch and brunch spots that have inhabited the space, including Porto and the legendary Carmen’s Country Kitchen.

The owners have a pretty serious brunch pedigree, too: Sara’s family worked at and owned Night Kitchen Bakery in Chestnut Hill for 15 years; she met Bruce at erstwhile Old City brunch spot Blue in Green. Bruce a veteran of bars and restaurants like Strangelove’s, Abbaye, and, back in the day, Carmen’s Country Kitchen; he’ll serve as chef at Comfort & Floyd.

In addition to a menu of breakfast and brunch goodies, the shop will sell cookbooks from nearby Molly’s Books & Records in the Italian Market (Bruce is a near-obsessive cookbook collector).

Comfort & Floyd is open from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and closed Tuesday.
