A Fine Dining Soul Food Spot Is About to Open in West Philly

Philly chef Barbara Devan is bringing downtown fine dining to West Philadelphia.

An upscale version of Tastie’s, Devan’s soul food kitchen, will open this Friday, April 20th at 1212 North 52nd Street. Unlike the casual Tastie’s locations — one in Germantown and one next door to the new spot in West Philly, which mostly focus on takeout — this one will present Devan’s food in a fine dining setting, along with a full bar.

Devan first started Tastie’s out of a kitchen at the former Jolly’s West bar at 38th and Lancaster, then expanded to a food truck and two brick-and-mortar cafes. When the pizza parlor next door to the 52nd Street location came up for sale, Devan jumped at the chance to bring her fine dining dreams to life in an underserved neighborhood.

For now, the new Tastie’s will occupy the first floor of the property, with upstairs bar 1212 Lounge slated to open at the beginning of June.

Tastie’s will be open from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. until midnight Friday and Saturday. Check out the full menu here and more shots of the luxe new space below.
