Bethlehem Is Courting Stone Brewing

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania has a history in steel but could it have a future in Stone? Stone Brewing is looking to open a brewery east of the Mississippi and Bethlehem has submitted an application. The application, submitted by Sands BethWorksRetail LLC would locate the possible 200,000 square foot facility in appropriately, an old stone foundry, located in area of the the former Bethlehem Steel complex often referred to as “the ruins.”

Bethlehem faces competition from the towns like Norfolk, VA., Myrtle Beach, SC, and Blount County, TN among others. Local officials told the Morning Call that the proposed brewery would benefit from its “proximity to Interstate 78, spring-fed water reservoirs, millions of tourists a stone’s throw away at the Sands and a powerful new tax incentive zone that would pay part of the construction cost with local and state taxes, including those on malt beverages.”
