Does Vick Want To Stay In Philly? He Won’t Say

Michael Vick spoke with the media for the first time since sustaining a concussion against the Cowboys back on November 11. Nick Foles has since been named the starter, leaving the star quarterback without a starring role and with little control over his future for the moment.

Vick was asked if  he still wants to be In Philadelphia given all that has transpired this season, and whether he would be open to returning next season as a backup.

“I just feel like I have a lot of football to play,” Vick responded. “I feel like I have a lot left in my tank. I’m enjoying the game, I feel fresh. I don’t know, man, I’ll have to talk it over with my agent and just see what happens. As of right now I have to continue to help this football team win these last two games and the future will take care of itself.”

Andy Reid on Friday said that Vick had finally been cleared by an independent neurologist. Vick practiced on Monday as the Eagles began preparations for the Redskins.

“It’s been tough sitting out for this long, because you want to be out there playing, you want to be out there with your team, but it was a situation where you just have to take precautions and let me get as much rest as possible and it paid dividends for me because I’m back and I’m healthy and I’m fresh now,” Vick said.

“It’s different, but that’s just the way things are right now and I have to roll with the punches and deal with it and make the most of it and continue to work hard and continue to try to get better, continue to try to help Nick out, continue to help Trent, continue to help this football team, and that’s my job, to continue to do everything I can to help this football team, and that’s my job as a leader of this football team, regardless if I’m the starter or the third-string quarterback.”

Reid made it sound like third-string is a possibility, telling reporters that he would have to look at the numbers before making a decision as to whether Vick would be active.

“It’s just a blessing to be back and playing football from where I came from and opportunities I had over the last three or four years, I would have never thought. So I’m just rolling with the punches. I’m going to continue to work hard to get better and keep enjoying the game of football, because this is what I love, and I realized that today throwing balls on the scout team.”

Vick clarified exactly how the injury happened, indicating that the initial blow came before the play when Ernie Sims threw him down.

“I was woozy and then I fell on my head again and I just kind of lost it right then and there,” he said.

“When I got hit the second time I was like, ‘Alright, I have to come out’ because I couldn’t see. But that’s how much I love the game.”
