Man Robs Chestnut Hill Drug Store, Returns to Steal Cigarettes

Per surveillance footage, he got away with four packs of Newport 100s — as well as a bunch of cash from the register.

A man walked into a Rite Aid in Mt. Airy and stole money from the cash register before walking toward the exit — only to turn around and order the cashier to give him several packs of Newport 100s, police say.

The robbery took place Sunday at the Rite Aid at 8235 Stenton Avenue. Cops say a man walked into the drug store just before 3 p.m. and gave the cashier a note saying he had a gun and to open the register.

The cashier opened the register; the suspect grabbed the money inside. He turned around to flee, but pivoted before leaving. He approached the cashier again and ordered him to give him several packs of cigarettes — Newport 100s. From the surveillance footage, he appears to have taken four packs.

The man then left the store and fled in an unknown direction. Police released surveillance photos, still images and the following description:

Black male, late teens to early 20 years-of-age, 5’3”-5’4”, brown complected, thin mustache, thin build, wearing a black skull cap, grey t-shirt, light colored cargo shorts, white socks, and black sneakers
