Eagles Wake-Up Call: A Look At the 2011 Draft Class

General consensus seems to be that you should wait at least three years before evaluating a draft class.

But considering the Eagles released their 2011 second-round pick, Jaiquawn Jarrett, yesterday, now seems like a good time to at least assess how each of the team’s 11 picks is doing.

What Experts Said About Jarrett When He Was Drafted

The Eagles decided earlier today that it was time to cut ties with Jaiquawn Jarrett.

Back in 2011, they took the safety out of Temple with the 22nd pick in the second round. Looking back at the selection, my recollection was that many thought the Eagles might have drafted him a little early, but most believed he was a good prospect.

The beauty of the Internet is that we can go back and look things up. Below is a look at what people said about Jarrett when the Eagles took him.

Eagles Release Jarrett, Sign Gilyard

The Jaiquawn Jarrett experiment in Philadelphia has come to a close.

The former second-round pick out of Temple was released Tuesday to make room for wide receiver Mardy Gilyard.

The Eagles also signed tight end Derek Carrier to the practice squad and released fellow tight end Chase Ford.

Eagles Wake-Up Call: Luck Be A Lady(Bug)

At halftime of the Monday Night Football game between the Chargers and Raiders, ESPN ran an NFL Film piece of various soundbites from the week. Michael Vick was mic’d up, and was overheard having this exchange with LeSean McCoy.

“A ladybug just landed on me. You know what that means, right?” Vick asked.

“Good luck,” McCoy replied.

Naturally, Vick proceeded to have one of his worst starts as a pro. He did  avoid a game-ending interception moments before throwing the go-ahead touchdown to Clay Harbor, though. Suppose that was lucky. And the Eagles somehow escaped with a win, which is definitely fortunate given he level of play on the offensive side.

“I was just telling somebody, ‘Man, I think this is one of the sloppiest wins in my career,'” said Cullen Jenkins. “It’s still setting in that we won the game. It might be a blessing in disguise for us because we come away with a win most importantly, but it shows us that we still have a lot of work to do.”

Eagles Could Bring Gilyard Back

As we mentioned earlier, the Eagles could be looking to make a roster move at wide receiver in the next day or two.

Jeremy Maclin suffered a hip injury, and his status for Sunday’s home opener against the Ravens is unknown. Jason Avant suffered a wrist contusion. And Andy Reid said Riley Cooper won’t be back as he continues to rehab a fractured collarbone.

Apparently, one guy Howie Roseman and Andy Reid are looking at is Mardy Gilyard.

Asomugha, DRC Flourish After Key Adjustment

Philadelphia Eagles CB Nnamdi Asomugha. It’s impossible not to be struck by the contrasts in styles.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie with his hot pink-rimmed glasses resting a click south of  his green mowhawk, answering questions quick and casually. Nnamdi Asomugha the stall over wearing a button-down and tie, carefully digesting each volley before returning serve.

On the field, Asomugha is the tactician, each movement measured and with purpose. Rodgers-Cromartie more loose and reliant on recovery speed.

“We laugh at that,” said Asomugha on the whole Odd Couple element. “But it’s always been like that. Every team I’ve been on there’s been a different personality with the other corner, and you see that throughout the league. But you know, it’s like a marriage: oppostites attract, so I’m good with it. He’s good with it.”

The key similarity is that they are both press corners.
