Bryce Brown rushed for a total of 476 yards in college. In two weeks as the starter for the Eagles, he has 347. He has already matched the touchdown total (4) from his 13 games with Tennessee and Kansas State.
It has been sudden and spectacular and captivating. Brown’s emergence has offered promise in a season where promise has been impossible to come by.
With 13:28 left in the second quarter, Nick Foles took the snap from under center and faked a handoff to Bryce Brown.
He turned his head around quickly, as the Cowboys blitzed slot cornerback Mike Jenkins and linebacker Ernie Sims. Brown picked up Jenkins, but Sims came unblocked. Foles remained calm and delivered on-target to Brent Celek for a 19-yard gain over the middle just as Sims hit him.
It’s the kind of throw Andy Reid, Marty Mornhinweg, Howie Roseman and Eagles fans want to see out of the rookie quarterback at this stage in his career.
A sad and maybe symbolic scene unfolded in the Eagles locker room just before reporters were ushered out late Sunday night. A pained Kurt Coleman, who needed assistance getting his shirt off moments before, walked up to Nate Allen and asked if he would be able to put his deodorant on for him, as he was unable to lift his arms and do it himself. Allen sustained a shoulder injury in the game and was also limited. But using his good arm, he dutifully performed the task for his fellow safety.
Officially, Coleman was listed with a chest contusion. But he was hurting bad, and it wasn’t all physical.
“It’s a little bit of everything right now,” said Coleman, his voice unable to get above a whisper.
“This sucks. It just sucks. I can’t piece one thing — it just sucks right now…We knew what we were doing, we knew what they were doing. It’s inexcusable really. We’re trying as hard as we can but that’s not enough, we have to be able to execute all the time.”
Andy Reid is tired of answering the same question after every loss.
Does you expect to finish out the season as the Eagles’ head coach?
“I haven’t been told any different, so I’m going to keep going, but you can keep asking me because I appreciate those questions,” he said after the team’s 38-33 defeat to the Cowboys. “I’m sure you’ll be the first to know.”
Here are my observations from the Eagles’ 38-33 loss to the Cowboys Sunday night.

The knock against the 28-year-old is that he is an unspectacular game-manager who is a product of both the system he plays in and the beneficiary of a stout defense and effective ground game. His supporters will point to the playoff game against the Saints in particular as evidence that he is able to lead the charge when called upon.
Smith signed a three-year, $24 million deal this offseason and is slated to make around $8 million next year. If he continues to sit on the bench, chances are he will ask out of San Francisco. Philadelphia could be a logical landing spot, depending on how the front office and the head coach are looking at things.
From Danny Watkins’ ankle to Nick Foles’ development, here are 10 things to know about how the Eagles’ offense matches up with the Cowboys’ defense.

From draft positioning to how the rookies are performing, here are 10 things to know about how the Eagles’ defense matches up with the Cowboys’ offense.
If the season ended today, the Eagles would have the fifth pick in the NFL draft.
So while positioning could change quite a bit in the next five weeks, I’m guessing many of you have at least started to take a peek at some of the top college prospects. Today is the final full slate of games until Bowl season. Keeping that in mind, here are five prospects you might want to check out if you’re in front of a TV.
Michael Vick has issued the following statement amid varying reports about his ongoing recovery from a concussion:
“I want to thank my fans for the thousands of well wishes. I also appreciate the support of the entire Eagles organization. I feel strong and healthy. As a professional athlete, I want to play in every game but the NFL has a specific protocol to protect players. My focus is to complete this process successfully, so I can rejoin my team on the field.”
