Arrelious Benn Tears His ACL

Wide receiver Arrelious Benn suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during Tuesday’s practice, the Eagles announced.

Benn returned to practice on Sunday after missing much of training camp with knee issues. Chip Kelly praised him following his first practice back, commending him on his knowledge of the playbook and saying that he “flashed” at times.

Talent is not an issue for Benn but injuries have kept him from taking off in the NFL.

He is the third member of the Eagles to suffer a torn ACL this summer, joining Jeremy Maclin and linebacker Jason Phillips.

DeSean Jackson, DeMeco Ryans, Jason Avant and others react to Riley Cooper’s return to the Eagles.

Cooper Hopes He Is Here To Stay

Riley Cooper made his way through the gathered media and onto the field at about 12:20 Tuesday afternoon. He first spent a couple moments with receivers coach Bob Bicknell, then walked over have a conversation with a team employee. Jason Avant was the first player to greet him. He came up to Cooper and affectionately grabbed him before giving him a hug.

That was the icebreaker. Moments later the whistle sounded and business resumed.

“It felt good. It felt great,” said the receiver following practice. “I love being out there on the field playing football, that’s what I do and that’s what I love. It felt good to be out there with the guys catching and running and making some plays, and them coming up to you, supporting you, high-fiving you, chest-bumping you like Jason Avant did in the end zone when I had that TD. It just felt good to be back out here with all the guys.”

Riley Cooper Returns To Team

Just four days after Riley Cooper was excused from all team activities to seek counseling, he is back.

Camp Notes: Chip’s A Special Teams Junkie

Dave Fipp has one student in particular that is standing out in special teams meetings. Perfect attendance. The first person to arrive. Attentive. Diligent note-taker. That student also happens to be his boss.

“He’s been in every single special teams meeting I’ve had since I’ve been here ,” said Fipp of Chip Kelly. “It’s great. He sits in front, he takes notes. He’s a great example for the players.

“I wouldn’t say it’s odd for him to be in meetings, but the frequency and the attention and the note-taking, that’s a little bit different.”

Camp Notes: Chip Calls On Braves For Help

Chip Kelly, as usual, was standing with the punt returners during the special teams portion of practice Sunday. He has been working with them regularly, focusing on improving their tracking ability so that they are consistently under the ball when it comes down.

All of a sudden, Kelly darted towards the sideline and disappeared into the crowd. He had spotted the handful of Atlanta Braves that were in attendance, and made his way into their pack looking for pointers. After all, who knows more about tracking balls than baseball players?
