Bride-to-be Blogger Stephanie: My Three Little Flower Girls

I feel exceptionally lucky to have three perfect little girls in my life: my four-year-old cousin Bella, my two-year-old goddaughter Juliana, and my one and a half-year-old soon-to-be niece Aubrey.

While still very young and perhaps too shy or indifferent to walk down the aisle, we’re going to give it a try, as, like my bridesmaids, these girls mean the world to me—spending time with them makes me supremely happy. And I know having them be a part of the happiest day of my life as flower girls will take happy one notch further.

Now it’s time to figure out (and I’m probably already behind the curve on this) what they’re going to wear. The good news is that I think it would be nearly impossible to make a wrong decision. They are going to look outrageously adorable in whatever they wear to walk down the aisle. They will very likely steal the show. I’m counting on it. I can envision it now—oohs and aahs and irrepressible smiles spreading across every single guest’s face. I feel this way around them all the time. Add in some tulle and flowers, and it’s just going to be unbearably cute and special.

I have some ideas of what I think I’d like, though very vague and pretty much entirely inspired by Pinterest. I’m leaning towards white or ivory, rather than a color. I tend to like something a bit more simplistic with a flower accent—either on a sash, along the back, or in their hair. I also think I’m leaning towards tulle. Funny, since I wasn’t crazy about it at all for myself for my own wedding dress; maybe I like it in miniature quantities or feel like it seems more appropriate for young girls?

I’ve also debated what to do about flowers. I’m now nearly settled on a basket of pedals for all three. I think they might love it. It might help with the shyness, as it would be less about walking down the aisle to the stares of every single guest and instead give them a focus and purpose that’s fun. I think they might revel in it.

However, it’s quite possible that the day could roll around, and all three of them will be too terrified or totally uninterested in walking down the aisle, as they’re still so little. The good news is that I’m prepared! I know it’s a possibility. And if they can’t, oh well. They will still be a part of the day. If they can, it will be incredible. Either way, I’m excited just thinking about it.

But now, it’s time to do the legwork: dresses and flowers. Philly brides, do you happen to have any advice? Are there specific shops you would recommend? Should I not limit the search to just bridal shops? What did your flower girl dresses look like, and were you happy with them? What is the turn-around time traditionally for flower girl dresses? Is it as long as bridesmaids, as in I should have ordered them yesterday? Lastly, which flowers would you recommend most for the flower girls: pedals to drop, purses, flowers in their hair?
