As of publish time, there is only 35 hours left to donate to Makella Craelius and Puppett's Indiegogo campaign to "preserve and expand the legacy of LGBTQ bookstores that have fallen by the wayside." You may remember these ladies as the ones who claimed to "almost save Giovanni's Room." Since they left the stories LGBT bookstore, where they were working as volunteers, they've hosted a variety of readings, and book sales at the William Way Community Center. If you'd like to see their work persist and help them find a space to call their own, feel free to donate. Right now they're miles away from their $11,828 goal. From G Philly: Philly’s only LGBT theater festival, GayFest!, kicks off on August 5th. Now in its fourth year, GayFest! producer Rich Rubin says the theme of the season is new meets old. There are a handful of Philadelphia premieres—Next Fall, Some Are People, and You Know My Name—playing alongside old-school favorites. The Haunted Host, for instance, celebrates 50 years on the stage. “It is considered by many to be America’s first full-length gay play,” says Rubin. “I’m excited about combining the new and cutting-edge work with historic work. More than ever, there’s a real range of tone and style in the festival.” So get out there and support our city’s sole LGBT film festival. The top 13 contestants in the new Gayborhood competition to find Philly's best comedian will lay their standup routines aside tonight for an evening of live singing. Young folks from the Attic Youth Center have been working all summer on a project that "encourages non-violent communication, particularly as it applies to social media platforms." They've put in 20 hours a week for six weeks to come up with ways to inspire positive communication across our favorite social media platforms. Their creations have manifested in the forms of art projects, plays, and poetry—all of which will be shared at this project-culminating expo. Stop by to see what the kids come up with, let some of their ideas soak in, and grab some nibbles from Giorgio On Pine while you're at it.
