The Lizzy Haddon neighborhood in Haddonfield is named after Elizabeth Haddon, the town’s co-foundress (her father bought the land in the late 1600s, but sent her to claim it when she was just twenty years old) known for her commitment to the flourishing community.
Haddon is said to have served as a clerk during women’s meetings for close to fifty years, while also being a pillar of charity for the poor and sick. Her public persona today is tied up with that generous image along with a notable frankness that is interlaced just right in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s “Elizabeth,” a poem depicting Haddon’s good deeds and her proposal to John Eustaugh.
Neighborhood history aside, here's the house info:
This custom-made residence (which bares a striking resemblance to a doll house, doesn't it?) possesses elaborate moldings, Charleston-inspired gas lantern light fixtures, first-floor surround sound, and a family room with a stained glass window and wood-burning fireplace. There's also a 2-car garage with a habitable second floor.
GE stainless appliances, six-stool island, built-in desk space, and granite counters can be found in the kitchen, which also boasts a separate seating area. Other first-floor features include ten-foot ceilings, Brazilian cherry wood floors, two-story foyer, and a living room with built-in cabinetry and gas fireplace.
Upstairs, the master suite has a sitting area with cathedral ceiling, built-in entertainment center, gas fireplace, and access to a balcony, which can also be reached from the hall. The newly renovated third floor is viable as an au-pair or in-law suite as it offers a kitchen, breakfast area, full bathroom with double sinks, and bedroom.
In the high-ceilinged basement, two workout spaces (one with equipment, the other a dodgeball court (!?) and a tv and game area are present.
