For Sale: Yogi Berra’s Rather Lovely New Jersey Home

I suspect we have Carmen to thank for its elegance.

True, Philadelphians don’t care too much for the Yankees. We’ve been holding a grudge at least since 1950, when they trounced us in the World Series. On the other hand, a recent map of baseball fandom showed that the Yankees have a surprising fan foothold in parts of this area, including the Poconos and Allentown.

Either way, everyone loves Yogi Berra — damn Yankee or no. It was heartbreaking to hear that Carmen passed away in March after more than 65 years of marriage. It’s no surprise, really, that the family home is now on the market. And it’s a lovely home. I’m not sure why, but I suspect it was Carmen, not Yogi, who did the decorating. I like that there’s a spot called a “Lemonade Porch.” That recalls some happy days, for sure.

Slideshow below, including a dining room that features a rather serious portrait of Berra.
