Property’s Afternoon Obsession: Smak Parlour’s Mobile Real Estate

This summer Philadelphia welcomes novel property: a shop on wheels. Smak Parlour, stationary at 219 Market Street, takes to the road in its recently launched “fashion truck,” an 18-foot 2006 GMC 5500 diesel purchased for $10,000.

Currently licensed to dress at 40th Street between Spruce and Locust, the truck–complete with French doors, hardwood floors, 8-foot ceilings, air conditioning and the Urban Outfitters-meets-Betsey Johnson clothing–promises to migrate to wherever its consumers demand. (There are even plans to hit the Shore.)

For now, though, Smak Parlour owners Abby Kessler and Katie Lubieski, both Drexel alums, are staying where U City food trucks coalesce.  Their motor move, old-school in Los Angeles but innovative in Philly, is a savvy business leap that will add flavor to our city’s established mobile culture.
