This Sunday, January 17th marks the 310th birthday of founding father Benjamin Franklin, and what better way to celebrate than by having a few beers with the man credited for saying “Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy?” He actually was talking about wine, but we’ll ignore that for now.

Tonight and tomorrow at 5:30 p.m., you can join Ben on a Special Edition Tippler’s Tour, a colonial pub crawl through four Old City pubs. There will be plenty of toasts and singing from “Ben” himself, so if you’re looking for some theatrical fun this could be the thing for you. The crawl includes stops at National Mechanics, Victoria Freehouse and City Tavern at 7:30 p.m. and costs $45 for adults and $40 for students, seniors, and military personnel.

Then on Monday (Martin Luther King Day), City Tap House Logan Square will be holding a brunch in honor of Ben, where Saint Benjamin Brewing Company will release the first beers in their Belgian-style series.

The brunch will include a nice selection of Saint Benjamin brews like Hopligation, Foul Weather Jack, and Liaison Saison, and then the new Belgian-series beers: Franklin’s Abbey Belgian Ale, Franklin’s Abbey Stout, and Franklin’s Abbey Triple.

The tapping and food will begin at 11 a.m. and go until 3 p.m.
