When the clock struck midnight on Friday, same-sex marriage became legal in the UK, and many a happy ceremony took place over the weekend as same-sex couples took advantage of their new-found right to finally tie the knot.

Happily, Elton John and his longtime partner David Furnish have just announced that they, too, plan on joining in the legal same-sex marriage festivities—“We shouldn’t just say ‘Oh, well, we have a civil partnership, we’re not going to bother to get married’. We will get married,” says Mr. John—and while for a moment, we were very excited at the prospect of what a wedding put on by Elton John might look like, then we remembered that the two fab grooms actually threw quite the event back in 2005 when same-sex civil unions became legal in the UK.

While that affair involved a joint bachelor party at a London nightclub, 600 guests (many of whom were celebs, obv), recorded well-wishes from Bill Clinton, and a $2 million dollar tab, this one, apparently, is going to be quiet, and mostly involve a small celebration with their children. Pretty awesome, all the same.
