On Friday, October 9, 2009, Wills Eye Institute celebrated 175 years as a world-class leader in ophthalmology with a gala at the National Constitution Center. More than 530 guests attended the event, and the evening raised $300,000 to benefit patient care, research, and training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Ocular Genetics at Wills Eye Institute.

On Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at the Moore College of Art & Design Nancy Kolb and Billie Tsien were honored with The 2009 Visionary Woman Award. Nancy Kolb, president and CEO of the Please Touch Museum, was honored for her work on restoring historic Memorial Hall. Billie Tsien was honored for her work as one of the architects of the new Barnes on the Parkway. Since 2003, the Visionary Woman Awards has become a widely recognized event that honors women whose work and leadership have had a powerful influence on the visual arts. On Saturday, October 3, 2009, Living Beyond Breast Cancer held their annual Butterfly Ball at Loews Philadelphia Hotel. Along with cocktails, dinner, and dancing, attendees participated in a silent auction. All proceeds benefited Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s education and support program.

On Saturday, October, 2009, the National Liberty Museum held its 10th Anniversary Glass Now Gala & Auction at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. The evening included cocktails, dinner, and auction. The evening also honored museum founder Irvin J. Borowsky and his wife Laurie Wagman. All proceeds from the glass auction benefited the museum's educational programs.
