Mayor Nutter Joins Anti-Gun Coalition

Joins former PA Governor Tom Ridge in Everytown for Gun Safety.

We told you yesterday that former PA Governor Tom Ridge was on the advisory board of Everytown for Gun Safety, a new group funded by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to enact gun restrictions at the state and national levels. Now Mayor Nutter has joined the effort, as well.

One of the lobby’s primary demands is universal background checks. Nutter contends it is not an organized grab for everyone’s guns.

“I respect the second amendment,” he said, “but I believe I have a first amendment right not be shot.”

Philadelphia is one of 10 cities to join the effort. (CBS Philly)

  • You don’t have a First Amendment right not to get shot, stabbed, or punched in the face. The 1st Amendment protects SPEECH, the 2nd Amendment protects your ability to defend yourself from people that don’t like your speech or just seek to do you harm.

    Mayor Nutter is major nut!

Actually, the First Amendment is broader than speech. And the 2nd Amendment says nothing about allowing for an ability to defend oneself, that is purely conjecture.

      • The founding fathers disagree:

“A free people ought to be armed.”

        – George Washington

“The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature.
They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit
crimes…. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for
the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent
homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence
        than an armed man.”

        – Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)

James Madison, who wrote the 2nd Amendment, said this as well:

“Americans have the right and advantage of being armed, unlike the
people of other countries, whose leaders are afraid to trust them with

        – James Madison

Why do we keep and bear arms? To defend ourselves, OBVIOUSLY.

The right to self defense is a natural right. In its simplest definition, that is a right which every human possesses by virtue of being alive. The Constitutuion doesn’t grant that right, it protects it. And the Supreme Court has ruled in DC v Heller that it is an INDIVIDUAL right, not the collective right that progressives have been peddling to the constitutionally ignorant for eighty years.

Last I checked the Constitution doesnt mention anything about abortion either.

          or homosexuals “marrying” each other.

I respect the 2nd Amendment BUT: former RINO always a RINO> No need to read after the but. It will be infringments. Can you imagine background checks on the right to vote. He understands the Bill Of Rights obout as well as his ability to see his own BUTT. Lets go for background checks on these Mayors.

Gun control fails. Washington DC has the most extreme gun control of any US city by far. In 2010 DC had twenty seven times more murders than the slightly larger city of El Paso, where all responsible adult citizens can carry a loaded concealed handgun on their person as they go about her or his day. Both cities have a majority minority population of the same size located on the edge of the nation. A differential of twenty seven times is huge. Doubtless the greatest example of how gun control fails. Signed: E. Zach Lee-Wright

Chicago is the second city when it comes to gun control, just behind DC. In 2010 Chicago’s rate of murder was nineteen times higher than El Paso’s. Sources: FBI Crime Report and the US Census.

The oldest national government has a provision ensuring their people will be able to arm themselves. This constitutional guarantee is what has stopped an untold number of coup attemps because the people could be counted upon to rise up and restore the nation. Welcome to America.

Nutbag – we have a constitution. The Constitution is to protect us from people like you. The first thing a criminal wants to do is prevent his victims from defending themselves.
