Why would you want to live in Philly? BLacks are targeting whites in record #s

  • me

Spot on! But really, West Philly is the best Philly until the hipsters want a yard and a school for the newborn… there goes the neighborhood!

    • Avril111

My Uncle Nathaniel recently got a nearly new red Chrysler
200 Sedan only from working part time off a home pc… find out this here Buzz32.ℂom

Fishtown & Kensington have distinct hipsters of their own–you got the Kensington grungester down, but the Fishtown hipster, where is he? He’s the artist with his own studio who can no longer afford NoLibs, the bohemian who opens up a shop full of knit-wear, or the local brewer beer snob. The grungesters can’t afford rent on the east side of the El. I know enough of ’em.

  • Ed Marion

    great stuff

Back in 2008 Shmitten Kitten did sketches that were basically identical, right down to the captions and stench waves. They’re not posted on their site anymore, but they were exactly the same. I will say that not much has changed with the neighborhood character sketches in 5 or 6 years though.

    • Jamie

I was going to say…these sketches look awfully familiar. Hopefully it’s the same artist who was just guest posting on Shmitten Kitten. :/

    • annagoldfarb

Good memory! It’s me, Anna from Shmitten Kitten. A bunch of our sketches have disappeared over the years as contributors have moved on, but what’s left of the Drawn Dudes can be found here:

Kate’s drawings made me smile and definitely reminded me of the early days of my blog. Keep up the good work, Kate!

I live in South Philly, Not a hipster, Just a tattoed Pastry Chef :)
    Still, South Philly kicks ass!

    • Paulina

Kasia, tattooed Pastry Chef in S Philly, that`s a bit hipsterish;)

      • Katarzyna

I just don’t give a shit about “ironic” or “indie” bands lol

I like my Rob Zombie, NIN, Moterhead and Manson over any of that crap :)

  • myenglishisbad

what the fuck is a “hipster”?

    • Astromyxin .

Websters defines it as: “A useless, self-important jackass”.

  • Mr. ‘Dr’ Medical School, MD

There is also the lesser-known Fairmount/Francisville Hipster which is more of a cross-breed with a yuppy.

Hipster traits include: Low-fi non-conformist indie band start-ups, thick philosopher beards and nerd glasses, suspicion of other local tribes of hipsters, hatred of hipsters, use of English-style mannerisms (cheers) to show ‘culture’, pretending to be a part of the old neighborhood, light cigarettes, and seasonal hoppy beers from a local micro-brewery.

Yuppie traits include: Whole Foods, vegan-friendly gluten-free coffeehouses, jogging, and groomed, sad-looking dogs that are tied to poles outside as the subject sits at a chic cafe working on their latest blog.

At the cusp of these two breeds is pretension.

    • loops

I call this “yip-sters,” and as a Center City resident, I’m a total yipster through and through minus the dog. I do try to check the pretension, tho, so at least I got that going for me. ;-)

    • spijim

“At the cusp of these two breeds is pretension.”

Because your critique isn’t dripping with it.

      • J Green

true, but any american who uses english mannerisms. especially ‘cheers’ should die in a fire

        • spijim

I supposed I should start smacking people every time I hear “no worries” because it’s just a bunch of poseurs trying to sound Australian.

          • J Green

eh, i’d let that one slide, but if you’ve ever ‘gone round the pub for pint with your mates’, then into the fire for you

  • JofreyRice

    Making fun of hipsters; fresh!

    • spijim

making fun of hipsters is the new hipster.

      • J Green

        hipsters hate other hipsters

  • me

Why does anyone care? Seems like a waste of everyone’s time.

  • dookey butt

    • Jennifer Looney

      I hate them

  • phillydoge
