Wilmington’s New Mayor Inadvertently Vows to Ignore Crime

And I quote from Mayor Dennis Williams’s inaugural address: “We have a gun problem in this city that is beyond reproach, we have a homicide rate in this city that is beyond reproach.” Look, the new guy clearly didn’t mean that the issue doesn’t warrant criticism–he just misspoke. (Or he’s got crappy speechwriters.) The real culprit here (not beyond reproach) is Newsworks, for reporting the quote straight, and making Williams look like an ignoramus. Or maybe they don’t know what the word “reproach” means either. [Newsworks]
