DA: 6 People Billed SEPTA for Fake Injuries

As in the movie Speed, it was a camera on a municipal bus that did the villains in. On November 25th, a woman fell down while riding the 56 bus near Northwest Kensington. A 62-year-old guy who goes by “Superman” helped her up, later convincing her and five other people who weren’t on the bus to bill SEPTA a total of $54,000 for non-existent injuries. Superman was apparently paid $250 for each recruit by an unnamed attorney, says the District Attorney’s office. The six perpetrators are charged with insurance fraud, criminal conspiracy, attempted theft by deception, and generating undue sympathy for SEPTA. [NBC 10]
