White People Still Live in the Suburbs

Philadelphia ranks ninth in the nation when it comes to segration

Local writer Daniel Denvir rounds up the 10 most segregated urban areas in the country today. Philadelphia earns the ninth position. Despite growth in our city’s population—largely due to expanding Latino and Asian communities—Denvir notes that white suburbanites are fleeing even further outside city limits as blacks, Latinos and Asians move to resegregating older suburbs. [Salon] Denvir wrote a lengthier version of his Philly commentary a few weeks ago in Philadelphia Weekly. (Pro tip: The comments on PW are more interesting/depressing than the story itself.)
