Philadelphia novelist Larry Benjamin and his longtime partner, Stanley Willauer, were married at the Philadelphia Wedding Chapel in East Falls on June 28th. The date, Benjamin tells me, has particular significance—not only is it the day of their original commitment ceremony 17 years ago, but the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall riots. Here, he shares a little more about their day:

We kept our wedding simple—just six of our closest friends and supporters—and it was held at the Philadelphia Wedding Chapel in East Falls, where we have lived for 15 years. The Wedding Chapel is a small woman-owned, gay-friendly business. [East Falls] is a community that is diverse and welcoming so we wanted to get married here and support businesses in the area. Flowers came from Falls Flowers, just down the street from us, and we followed our ceremony with dinner at In Riva, on Ridge Avenue at Kelly Drive.

As a writer of gay romance, I give my characters happy endings. After waiting a lifetime, thanks to Judge Jones and Philadelphia Wedding Chapel, I got my own.

Benjamin writes more about the day in his blog post “Musings of a New Husband.” You can see that here. Check out some photos of their special day below:
