Delaware Becomes 11th State to Legalize Gay Marriage
The state Senate voted to approve legislation that makes marriage legal in our tiniest neighboring state.

This is a big month for tiny territories. It’s only been a week since Rhode Island became the 10th state in the nation to legalize gay marriage, and today Delaware became the 11th.
This afternoon (Tue., May 7), after a session that lasted over three hours, the Delaware Senate voted 12 to 9 to legalize gay marriage in the state. Almost as soon as voting was finished, Governor Jack Markell met throngs of supporters in the Capitol’s Legislative Hall, where he signed HB 75 into law. Equality Delaware reports that same-sex couples will be able to marry by July 1.
