Eagles Wake-Up Call: The McCoy-Brown Combo

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy.Sunday could provide a glimpse of what the Eagles’ running attack might look like in the future.

LeSean McCoy returns to action for the first time since suffering a concussion against this Redskins team back on November 18. He will start, but is expected to be eased back in.

“I’m going to keep an eye on him. He’s not going to play the whole game, every snap of the game,” said Andy Reid. “We’ll monitor him as we go and see how he does.”

Usually when McCoy is active the backup gets very little work. But in this case Bryce Brown could be in heavy rotation.

McCoy: ‘I Feel Like I’ve Let Coach Down’

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy.LeSean McCoy didn’t want to answer the question.

Asked what kind of reaction Andy Reid would draw from fans in what could be his final game at the Linc, he said, “I’m not thinking like that. I don’t want to answer that type of question. As far as I’m concerned, he’s our coach right now and hopefully in the future.”

But the reality is that McCoy is probably playing his final two games for the coach that drafted him in the second round of the 2009 draft. Even though the team is 4-10, coming off an 8-8 season last year and hasn’t won a playoff game since 2008, McCoy still stands firmly in Reid’s corner.

“I think so,” McCoy said, when asked if Reid is underappreciated. “If you sat here and tried to name five to eight coaches that’s better than Coach Reid, I would like to hear them, because Coach Reid’s a good coach. He gets blamed for everything. Sometimes if you break down the film or break down the plays and the mistakes, how do you fault the coach for that? But I guess people have their own opinions and their minds are made up. The thing about the team is we know how good of a coach he really is. Whatever happens, happens. I’m behind Coach Reid 110 percent.”

McCoy: Why Wouldn’t I Want To Play?

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy.LeSean McCoy doesn’t understand why some people think it would make sense for him to sit out the final two games of the season.

“Why would I want to play? Why wouldn’t I want to play?” McCoy said today. “They pay me to play this game. I love to play this game so why wouldn’t I play? My teammates are out there playing.”

Vick, McCoy Ruled Out For Bengals

Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy both took steps forward this week but have officially been ruled out of  Thursday’s game against the Bengals.

Vick and McCoy returned to the practice field Tuesday in a limited capacity and were scheduled to visit an independent neurologist Wednesday as part of the league’s concussion protocol in hopes of being cleared to play.  The Eagles allowed for the possibility that they could be available for Cincinnati, but have since closed the door.

Chris Polk (toe) is questionable for Thursday night. Nate Allen (shoulder), Nnamdi Asomugha (neck/quad), Stanley Havili (ankle), Mychal Kendricks (shoulder), Jeremy Maclin (groin), Evan Mathis (ankle) and Dallas Reynolds (ankle) are all probable.

Injury Update: McCoy, Vick Not Ruled Out Yet

LeSean McCoy and Michael Vick are in Phase 5 of the rehab process from concussions suffered last month and returned to practice in a limited capacity today.

“We’re not listing them as out,” said head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder. “They’re still very much alive for things. We’ll see how they do today and take it day by day. Of course, they have to get through this fifth phase, they have to get to the independent [neurologist], which could be tomorrow, and they have to see [team doctor] Dr. [Gary] Dorshimer and get his clearance as well.”

Vick, McCoy Eyeing Return To Practice

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy.Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy returned to baseline on their imPACT tests, the team announced, and could be back at practice as early as Tuesday.

An Eagles spokesman indicated that both players have yet to see an independent neurologist, a necessary step before being cleared to play after a concussion.

Vick went home sick on Monday (unrelated to his head injury) and was unavailable for comment. McCoy made a brief appearance in the locker room and joked how he was feeling better until he saw the media.

Andy Reid has already named Nick Foles the starter for the remainder of the year, meaning Vick would only return in a reserve role. It is possible, though, that McCoy could get back to action. Given that the Eagles play on Thursday, it’s difficult to envision either playing this week.
