Report: Eagles Add Veteran DB Coach Lovett

The final remaining hole on the Eagles’ coaching staff has been filled, according to a report.

Sources tell CoachingSearch.com that Chip Kelly has hired defensive backs coach John Lovett. Lovett spent last season coaching Texas Tech’s DBs. He moved on to Cincinnati with Tommy Tuberville in the offseason, but will never coach a game there.

His only NFL coaching experience came with the Jets as defensive quality control coach in 1984, but Lovett has been all over the college map, having served as defensive coordinator at Miami, Bowling Green, Clemson, Auburn, Maine and Cincinnati. He has also coached at Ole Miss, UNLV, Brown and North Carolina.

Lovett, 62, has 35 years of coaching experience.

He’ll be in charge of a group that could see major turnover this offseason. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is an unrestricted free agent. Nnamdi Asomugha could be released. And the Eagles need to upgrade from Kurt Coleman and/or Nate Allen at safety.

As for the Eagles’ staff, assuming Lovett will coach DBs here, all the major spots have been filled. Here’s an updated look at everyone reportedly in place.
